Meet Our Pillar:

Beth Emet the Free Synagogue has supported the Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute since its inception sixteen years ago. Every year, on the first Sunday in June, Beth Emet opens its doors and welcomes hundreds of community members and mental health professionals to a day -long conference that centers on important issues  surrounding  persons with mental illness.

The primary goal of NRCI is to eliminate  the stigma of mental illness through open dialogue  with up to date  information and education to all citizens, whether they are therapists, families and friends, or those suffering from the complexities of mental illness.

Founded by Marilyn and Larry Cohen who are members of Beth Emet, NRCI offers help, hope and support to those with mental health disease and education to those who are the support system for people with mental health disease.  Over these years, Rabbi Andrea London and Rabbi Emeritus Peter S. Knobel   have supported us in so many ways; providing compassionate opening words at the conference and leading discussion groups, but most importantly, modeled candid discussion of mental illness.

For over 16 years, NRCI has promoted social well- being, offering comfort and assistance to individuals and families that are struggling with the daily issues of life. Like the Synagogue, it is doing important work of repairing the world to all society a better place.
